Summoned isn’t that too old world

In case you missed it this is what happened.

US Ambassador David Mulford in an interview to the PTI said

if New Delhi did not vote against Tehran’s nuclear programme at the February 2 IAEA meeting, the fallout on the Indo-US nuclear deal in the US Congress would be “devastating” and the Indo-US nuclear initiative will “die” in the House.

The statement was later clarified to be a personal one by Mr. Mulford.

What amused me was the use of the word summoned.


Sharply reacting to US Ambassador David C Mulford’s remarks on the future of Indo-US nuclear deal, Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran summoned him and bluntly stated that his comments were “inappropriate” and “not conducive to building a strong partnership” between the two countries.

Although it makes perfect sense, the word summoned seems to be a little old world.
